Carson Valley Sertoma’s Coat Drive concluded Jan. 31, and organizers report that the community came together to donate 9,255 items including 3,836 coats and jackets. Throughout the drive, thousands of items including blankets, mittens, hats, socks, and coats were taken to 17 local area organizations for distribution. Sertoma even had enough items to host three “Everything-Except-Coats” giveaways during the event (carsonvalleysertoma.org/).
In addition to the many returning locations that host the club’s signature blue donation barrels, Sertoma received requests from four new spots in the Carson Valley and Carson City wanting to serve as host sites. Several other places hosted their own “in-house” donation barrels. When all totaled, the final number of items collected was a little higher than last year, marking another successful coat drive.
The mission of the local CV Sertoma chapter is to meet the needs of the community through volunteerism, and the club is also dedicated to providing monetary support to other service organizations..
