Piedmont launching new program to train more physicians in Augusta

The Piedmont health care system is including Augusta in a new Graduate Medical Education program to produce more Georgia physicians and to give medical and surgical residents expanded access to hospitals and clinics.

Piedmont operates several residency programs with a local focus in Athens, Macon, Columbus, and Cartersville. Combined, they paired 80 med-school graduates with residencies.

With its new GME program, the health system hopes to almost quintuple that number within the next decade…
