A shocking and tragic event took place in Detroit’s west side on Tuesday, as a community regular lost his life in a violent carjacking. At approximately 4:30 a.m., the victim, who often frequented a Sunoco gas station on Joy Road near Greenfield Road, was assaulted and run over by his own Jeep Compass. CBS Detroit reported that police say the suspect physically attacked the victim after being found in his vehicle.
The situation escalated when the assailant re-entered the man’s vehicle after the assault and proceeded to run over the victim multiple times, which resulted in his death. According to Local 4 News, a 25-year-old suspect was captured by authorities following a short pursuit that ended near the intersection of Warren and Greenfield. Police described the incident as a vicious, random attack, with no known motive at the time of the investigation.
The gas station where the crime occurred had become an unintended shrine as locals expressed disbelief and sorrow.
