KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Western Michigan University’s (WMU) Board of Trustees are taking a step forward in transferring management of the Asylum Lake Preserve to Kalamazoo County.
Trustees on Thursday voted “yes” to enter into a “Memorandum of Understanding” (MOU) with the county, which the U.S. Department of Education defines as a document that explains how two or more parties will work together to achieve a common goal.

Thursday’s MOU sought to allow WMU to enter negotiations and formalize an interlocal agreement with Kalamazoo County.
