Horry History: Conway’s Peanut Warehouse features include `Strom’s Porch’

The Historic Peanut Warehouse in Conway, now a popular venue for brides and grooms, was once used for decades to store tobacco, and has a porch dedicated to the late Sen. Strom Thurmond.

The well-weathered structure, at 2nd Avenue and Laurel Street near the Conway Riverwalk, was built in 1900 as a warehouse for peanuts. The crop plays a role in South Carolina’s $42 billion agribusiness mix.

After storing peanuts, the 10,000-square-foot building was turned into a warehouse for tobacco, for 13 different companies, according to The Peanut Warehouse’s website…
