A deadly crash on a rural Granite Hills road east of El Cajon left one person dead yesterday after a pickup truck went off the roadway and came to rest near the intersection of Greenfield Drive and La Cresta Road, authorities said. First responders found the occupant trapped inside the wrecked vehicle and later pronounced them dead at the scene. Investigators have not yet released the victim’s name or any additional identifying details.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the California Highway Patrol said the crash happened shortly before 3 p.m. CHP crews had to extricate the occupant from the damaged pickup, the outlet reported, and authorities said further details were not immediately available.
Where It Happened And The Emergency Response
The crash unfolded on a winding stretch of La Cresta Road near Greenfield Drive, a rural corridor east of the city that can feel more country back road than suburban shortcut. Crews temporarily shut down the area while rescuers worked the scene and investigators began documenting evidence.
Officials with the California Highway Patrol led the response alongside county emergency personnel and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. CHP investigators are asking anyone who was in the area around the time of the collision and saw the pickup, or who might have relevant video, to contact the agency as they work to determine what led up to the crash.
