Staten Island firefighter injured in Great Kills blaze released from hospital

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Members of the FDNY, along with family and friends, gathered for a walk-out ceremony honoring Probationary Firefighter Christopher Dorato of Engine 167 in Annadale after he was released Thursday afternoon from Northwell Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.

Dorato was one of two firefighters and a civilian who suffered non-life-threatening injuries during a three-alarm blaze at a home in Great Kills on Friday, Jan. 30. He sustained a severe leg injury requiring five surgeries, according to a post on the department’s X account.

FDNY video taken from outside The Lois & Richard Nicotra Heart Institute building captured a smiling Dorato being wheeled out on a gurney as members of the department lined up to offer hand shakes and high-fives.
