Hamilton County man’s life sentence reduced to 18 years in 2016 fatal shooting case

CINCINNATI (WXIX) -A man originally sentenced to life in prison in 2017 was re-sentenced to a total of 18 years Thursday after a Hamilton County judge approved a plea deal in a fatal shooting case.

Court records show that Earl Jones, 33, pleaded guilty Thursday to voluntary manslaughter and felonious assault in Hamilton County court in connection with the 2016 fatal shooting of Kevin Neri. The plea deal requires Jones to serve an additional eight years after already serving ten years.

Jones was originally sentenced to life in prison in 2017 for aggravated murder, felony murder, and carrying a concealed weapon. Jones argued self-defense.
