GW Hospital purchases land in Northeast DC

GW Hospital purchased an acre of vacant land in Northeast D.C. for $7.4 million last week, according to D.C. Recorder of Deeds records.

District Hospital Partners LP, a partnership between Universal Health Services and GW to operate GW Hospital, signed a deal for a piece of long-vacant land on the corner of New York Avenue and Bladensburg Road in Ward 5 on Feb. 3, purchased from a trust belonging to Virginia residents Lee Speed Briscoe and Catherine Roberts Briscoe. The acquisition comes less than a year after UHS opened Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health in Southeast D.C., a facility staffed by physicians from the Medical Faculty Associates, which has struggled with staffing as UHS and GW continue negotiations over the debt-ridden MFA.
