City’s median apartment rents rise in new data, while neighboring localities post declines

Alexandria appears to be closing the gap with neighboring Arlington for priciest apartment rentals in the region, according to one data analysis.

The median Alexandria apartment asking rent of $2,200 for one-bedroom units was up 5.3% year-over-year, while the median $2,740 for two bedrooms was up 3.8%, according to figures reported on Tuesday by Zumper.

That placed the city third across the D.C. metro area in highest median apartment cost. Among the top three, Alexandria was the only one to see year-over-year increases in the Zumper figures:

  • Median rental prices for one-bedroom apartments in Arlington stood at $2,330 and the median two-bedroom rent was $3,120, down 4.1% and 4.9%, respectively
  • In the District of Columbia, the median apartment rents of $2,210 and $2,930 were down 3.9% and 4.6%, respectively, year over year.
