Letter | Elderly drivers should undergo driving test

Dear Editor: I am writing in support of Katie Kitzerow’s opinion piece (“Not ‘just an accident’; an elderly driver killed my child,” Feb. 6) that people age 79 and over should have yearly road testing to determine their fitness for driving a motor vehicle.

Science has shown that reaction time diminishes with age. For some people mental reasoning can become impaired as well. How many families have had to have the “Mom/Dad we don’t think you should be driving any more” talk with aging parents. Or worse, haven’t had the talk but know they should and instead just pray that their aging parent doesn’t kill themself or others in a car accident…
