The Illinois Commerce Commission has approved nearly $1 million for safety upgrades at three railroad crossings in Carroll and Ogle counties.
The project will install new automatic flashing light signals and gates at the Oakville Road, Brookeville/Ogle Road and W. Oregon Trail Road crossings, according to a community announcement.
Work should be done within 18 months
The Grade Crossing Protection Fund will cover 95% of the combined estimated cost for the new warning devices, not to exceed $993,328. The BNSF Railway Company will pay all remaining signal design and installation costs, as well as all future operating and maintenance costs.
“Illinois’ Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) makes it possible to install modernized safety infrastructure at rail crossings in all parts of the state.
