Dauphin County pawn shop employee sentenced in $50K fraud scheme

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — A Dauphin County pawn shop employee pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $50,000 in cash and merchandise through a monthslong scheme involving falsified pawn tickets, forged documents and diverted customer payments, according to court documents.

Court documents reflect that Edward Rivera, a former employee at National Jewelry and Pawn on Herr Street, has pleaded guilty to what investigators described as extensive internal theft dating back to early February 2024.

Officers with Penbrook Borough Police responded to the shop on April 17 for a report of employee theft. The store’s manager, Gilbert Peralds, told police he had suspended Rivera after discovering $49,875 in losses tied to fraudulent transactions…
