Man to serve 58 years for attempted aggravated murder of officer

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man will serve 58 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted aggravated murder and other charges related to a 2023 shooting at a Virginia Beach police officer in a Kohl’s parking lot.

Tyler Lynn Davis, 26, had been sentenced to 93 years in prison, but 35 years of the sentence was suspended. Davis was also found guilty of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, grand larceny and conspiracy to commit grand larceny following a three-day jury trial last October. He pleaded guilty in December to another charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon.

The sentencing, announced by Commonwealth’s Attorney Colin D. Stolle Thursday, follows an October 2023 incident in which Davis shot at an officer during a shoplifting escape at Pembroke Mall in Virginia Beach.
