Ex-Jackson police officer testifies to axe attack, fatal shooting of nurse

Nearly two years after former Jackson Police Department officer Marcus Johnson claimed self-defense in the brutal killing of nurse Carlos Collins, that plea remained at the center of his ongoing murder trial.

Johnson, now 35, was arrested in connection to the killing of Collins, 25, on April 9, 2024, at Tapestry Northridge Apartments off Parkway Drive near Old Canton Road in North Jackson.
