KC-area cities consider Kratom bans as DEA launches federal review

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Drug Enforcement Administration, or DEA, accepted a petition asking for the government to review Kratom. The move could eventually lead to stronger regulations.

Millions of people across the country have either become addicted, suffered adverse health issues, overdosed, or died after taking Kratom.

The DEA’s acceptance of the petition triggers a formal process. Those steps include:

  • Scientific review
  • Consulting among agencies
  • Public input sessions

“This is an important and long-overdue step,” Dean Francis, founder of End Kratom Addiction, said. “For years, families, clinicians, and people harmed by kratom have been sounding the alarm while federal policy leaders weighed the evidence.
