North St. Louis neighborhoods plan for future while tornado recovery continues

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Residents of north St. Louis neighborhoods gathered Thursday night to discuss their community’s future, even as recovery from last May’s tornado remains present day by day.

The launch party for the Academy-Sherman Park and Fountain Park Lewis Place neighborhood plan brought together community members to provide feedback on long-term goals for their areas during the next 20 years. The effort mirrors similar planning initiatives the City of St. Louis has underway in other neighborhoods. There are seven designated plan areas.

For residents like Mozzio Withers and Toliver Thurston III in the Fountain Park neighborhood, the tornado’s impact remains very present outside their front door, with damaged buildings and large tree stumps still visible…
