Eugene officials seek leads on Santa Clara Park vandalism

Eugene city officials are asking the public to help identify vandals who have been damaging Santa Clara Park.

A press release Wednesday, Feb. 11 from Eugene Parks & Open Space said the park has been the location of “multiple instances of vandalism” during recent weeks, including:

  • Signage and bicycle racks stolen.
  • Playground equipment removed or broken.
  • Fires lit on benches, on the park’s turf and in restrooms.
  • Plants stolen or torn out of the ground.
  • Reckless driving on the lawn between the entry and the parking lot.

Staff are assessing the extent of the damage and coordinating cleanup and repairs, the news release said. In addition, staff are organizing “an increased presence at the park” and working with other city departments to prevent further damage.

Members of the public who saw anything unusual in or near the park or who may have photos or information about the vandalism can report it through the online reporting tool “Park Watch.”…
