City of Reno deploys street maintenance crews to prepare for the storm

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Northern Nevada is anticipating a storm over the weekend through early next week, and the City of Reno is taking action to prepare our local roads with brine. “We have already begun today preparing for the storm. We’ve been putting brine down on the roadways. We have staff that is prepared to come in and start operating should we see the snow come in on Sunday night, as it is expected,” said Travis Truhill, Director of Maintenance and Operations.

Truhill says crews started brining the roads around 6 a.m. Friday morning because it’s important to apply brine 24 to 72 hours before the storm. “We don’t brine when we know there is a rain storm coming because it just gets washed away, and it’s a waste of money to do that. We started placing brine today, and it will have no problem holding up into the storm we expect on Sunday.”
