RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — The Reno City Council voted 4-3 Wednesday to approve a 6% increase to the city’s Waste Management franchise fee, a move that will generate millions in additional revenue but raise resident’s utility bills.
The approved change raises the franchise fee from 8% to 14%, which city staff estimate will bring in an additional $5.5 million annually. The average increase for the typical customer’s trash bill will be $4.20 per quarter, or nearly $17 per year.
