CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — More than 500,000 gallons of wastewater spilled in southwest Charlotte Tuesday.
Charlotte Water reported the sewage spill Friday in the 6400 block of South Tryon Street, and the estimated 571,000 gallons may have reached nearby Sugar Creek. The creek flows south into the Catawba River in Lancaster County, South Carolina.
Officials say wastewater pipes that cross over creeks are inspected at least every six months. This overflow estimate reflects the volume that could have passed through the damaged pipe since the last inspection in August 2025…
