DUNNELLON – Vice Mayor Tim Inskeep on Feb. 11 gave his first report to council, residents and others concerned about the fallout from the Feb. 1 fire that destroyed some of the creosote-treated railroad ties that have been stored in both the city and Marion County.
Appointed Feb. 9 to oversee the cleanup, Inskeep said on Feb. 11 that a security guard is at the site day and night. The affected area is near the Chatmire and Blue Cove communities. Inskeep said CSX has contracted with a security firm for the round-the-clock guards.
The dirt where the burned railroad ties once stood is being scooped and placed on trucks to be inspected. Covered trucks take the dirt to a hazardous disposal site located elsewhere…
