As Syracuse hires a nightlife coordinator, meet Iowa City’s similar ‘nighttime mayor’

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Mayor Sharon Owens has already received interested applicants for City Hall’s new role of “night mayor,” as it’s casually called.

Owens admits she doesn’t like that title: “There’s one mayor.”

The job in Syracuse is one of many popping up across the nation. An association of nighttime managers, N.I.T.E.C.A.P., lists at least 15 cities with the job.
