The Pawffee Shop: a purrfect experience

Although the Pawffee Shop Cat Cafe is located several miles away from campus, it boasts something the rest of the coffee shops on College Avenue don’t have that makes it worth the extra distance: cats. Not only does the Pawffee Shop Cat Cafe offer several beverage and food choices, but they also offer the experience of visiting with various cats and kittens.

Visiting with the cats is free, but a traditional donation or a donation in the form of purchasing something from the cafe is encouraged. Each timeslot is half an hour long, and you are able to make reservations ahead of time. Otherwise, walk-ins are accepted as space allows as well. Every cat at the cafe is also adoptable through the Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary, which is an organization located in Green Bay that is dedicated to rescuing and caring for cats with special needs and disabilities. The organization operates solely on donations and rescues hundreds of animals per year. Since its opening in 2019, the Pawffee Shop Cat Cafe has had over 200 cats adopted from its store.

The menu at the Pawffee Shop Cat Cafe was limited compared to a traditional coffee shop, but that was to be expected. Despite this, they still offered unique flavors and beverages, and food options, such as bakery items and fresh fruit. We ordered an iced caramel latte and hot chai latte, and were pleasantly surprised with how delicious our beverages were. Even though the cafe was only part of the experience, they still delivered. Our drinks were also moderately priced and there wasn’t much of a wait. Additionally, the store had a lot of cat themed items for sale, such as decorations and jewelry, which you could browse as you waited for your time slot.

After a short wait, we were allowed to visit with the cats in a separate room of the building. At the time we visited, they had eight cats in the cafe, ranging from small kittens to older cats. The room had many couches, chairs, and tables to sit at as well as lots of cat towers and beds. Additionally, lots of toys were provided so guests could play with the cats…
