Lower Valley Water warns proposed ICE detention facility could strain system

SOCORRO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Concerns are growing in Socorro over whether a proposed ICE detention facility could strain the area’s water system, as some residents say low water pressure is already a daily challenge.

The Lower Valley Water District, which serves the area near the proposed site, said it is not currently seeing water pressure problems in the district.

Asked whether there are water issues, Ed Long, the district’s chief operations and technical officer, said, “No, no, we don’t.”

Long said the district is preparing to prevent any pressure drops if the facility moves forward. “We’re taking steps to make sure they don’t experience those drops in water pressure,” he said…
