Storm Track 3 Forecast: Showers and storms through Saturday, windy next week

Clouds will take over into this evening as scattered showers develop over the southern half of the state.  At the start, it will be hit or miss before filling in overnight through Saturday morning.

A Marginal Risk for severe weather has bumped into southern Kansas through Saturday morning to account for any stronger storm dropping a few hailstones.  Embedded thunder is likely during this system.

The backside will slowly track from west to east on Saturday, exiting our region to the east by Saturday night.

Most rainfall accumulations will be from a tenth to a half inch.  A half inch to more than an inch of rain is likely along and East of the Turnpike.  Some spots of Southeast Kansas could gain more than 2″ of rain!  This will help the drought out in this part of our viewing area but leaving our northwest corner needing much more.

Temperatures will be cool from the 30s to the 40s overnight which will keep this all as rain with no snow nor ice.

Highs on Saturday will be affected by clouds and rain, keeping us in the 50s and lower 60s.

Clouds may be more stubborn to exit the first half of Sunday from central into eastern Kansas. This could cost a few degrees for the afternoon high.  It will still be unseasonably warm in the 60s.  More warmth is added next week.

Even though we get the rain now, we will dry out quickly next week.  Gusty winds will be a repeated offense only enhancing our high fire danger.  The cold front early on that resets temps by a few degrees for midweek looks dry for us.  We will need to watch a couple more systems by the end of next week.

If they track through too quickly as model data suggests today, then the atmosphere will not be able to brew and build much moisture.  Strong winds will continue to be an issue as each system and front crosses our path, only ramping up fire weather concerns further.
