The University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security issued a UM EAlert at 5:35 p.m. advising people to avoid the area due to the gas leak. Officials confirmed the incident took place shortly before 5:42 p.m., causing significant property damage to several cars. Luckily, there were no injuries reported, but residents and drivers were urged to avoid the affected area until it was deemed safe.
Contrary to initial information suggesting an explosion, subsequent clarification revealed that the situation involved a ruptured gas line rather than a fiery blast, as CBS Detroit indicated.
