Ruptured Gas Line in Washtenaw County Leads to Road Closures Near Ann Arbor

A gas leak in Washtenaw County prompted local authorities to close the intersection of Ellsworth Road and State Street. This incident, which took place yesterday, saw the involvement of police and emergency responders, who managed the potentially hazardous situation, as reported by ClickOnDetroit.

The University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security issued a UM EAlert at 5:35 p.m. advising people to avoid the area due to the gas leak. Officials confirmed the incident took place shortly before 5:42 p.m., causing significant property damage to several cars. Luckily, there were no injuries reported, but residents and drivers were urged to avoid the affected area until it was deemed safe.

Contrary to initial information suggesting an explosion, subsequent clarification revealed that the situation involved a ruptured gas line rather than a fiery blast, as CBS Detroit indicated. DTE Energy identified a third-party contractor’s accidental impact with a gas line as the cause of the incident.
