Much of the region now expected to get “some” snow Sunday night

A low pressure system will slide to our south Sunday evening heading northeast off the lower Mid-Atlantic coast overnight Sunday into Monday morning. For a while, it seemed this storm system would stay far enough to our south that we would either get nothing or at most a few rain and snow showers. Latest forecast model guidance however has trended north with the low pressure track, in addition to showing the storm being a little stronger. Because of these factors, we now anticipate much of the region to receive at least a light and minor snowfall accumulation overnight Sunday.

Precipitation is expected to start out as some light rain or a rain/snow mix moving from southwest to northeast across the region between 4pm and 7pm Sunday. Temperatures at this point should mostly be above freezing so it will be tough to see any snowfall accumulation at this point. After 7pm, most of the region can expect any rain or rain/snow mix to become all snow as temperatures slowly drop to around or just below freezing. This will make it easier for snow to accumulate. Steady snow will take us through the overnight until roughly about 4am, eventually wrapping up for good by sunrise Monday.

As of now we expect most of the region to receive 1-2″ of snowfall accumulation. This will be a wet slushy snow and could very well just leave some surfaces wet. Regardless, slippery road conditions will still be possible, especially getting into the Monday morning commute…
