Former DeKalb County School Superintendent Devon Horton Set to Stand Trial in October

The legal troubles for Devon Horton, a former superintendent of the DeKalb County School District, continues to unfold as a federal trial date has been solidified. As per FOX 5 Atlanta, Horton, together with three other individuals, faces 17 federal counts which include embezzlement, wire fraud, and tax fraud, all stemming from his previous leadership position in an Illinois school district.

With the indictment alleging Horton approved fraudulent invoices for kickbacks and contracting services that never materialized, the focus is now on a three-week jury trial scheduled to start on October 21. Although Horton is also associated with separate domestic violence charges in Georgia, these are not connected to the current federal case, as FOX 5 Atlanta has made clear.

Lawyers previously sought for a mid-April 2027 trial date, but a judge has recently set a strict 10-day deadline to finalize the trial date to fall within this year after denying the request due to scheduling issues. Defense attorney Terry Campbell expressed concerns regarding the rapid collection of documents through subpoenas in a statement obtained by Hoodline. The judge has indicated fall dates, turning down requests to extend the trial to 2027. A status call is expected in 30 days to finalize the dates.
