Mount Vernon woman arrested on drug charges after theft investigation lead

MOUNT VERNON, Ind. (WEVV) — A Mount Vernon woman is behind bars and an 18-year-old man faces charges after police investigated a narcotics complaint that ultimately linked back to a recent string of vehicle thefts.

Mariah Kempf-Robbins, 26, was arrested Thursday, Feb. 12, after Mount Vernon Police Department narcotics detectives responded to an apartment on Vine Street. According to a press release from Chief Justin Rutledge, Detective Karlee Eickhoff received a complaint regarding a strong odor of marijuana coming from the residence.

Upon arrival, officers noted a “smokey haze” and a heavy scent of marijuana inside the apartment. During a search of the premises, police located suspected cocaine, marijuana, and various items of drug paraphernalia. Detectives also reportedly found additional cocaine inside Kempf-Robbins’ purse…
