Marine Way Undercrossing expands Great Park access
The City of Irvine is building a new rail undercrossing at Marine Way to connect the Great Park with the Irvine Spectrum area. The project will also create a new entrance into the southern part of the park and improve access to Irvine Station. Visitors will be able to cross under the railroad tracks at Marine Way and travel about ¼ mile along Barranca Parkway to reach the station. Rail access will still be limited to Barranca Parkway, though the City is studying another crossing at Ada.
This week, crews are placing a strong concrete base under the Borrego Channel and adding steel reinforcements along Marine Way. Once approved, temporary support beams called “Launch Slabs” will be installed to help push large concrete tunnel sections beneath the tracks.
