HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Crews are about to break ground on a major project along Pinhook Creek designed to prevent flooding and create new green spaces for the community. The city awarded a contract to Lambert Contracting LLC to widen the creek and restore the stream, covering roughly 3,200 feet from Holmes Avenue to Memorial Parkway.
The work includes moving about 100,000 cubic yards of earth and building 90,000 square feet of retaining walls. Decorative walls will line the east bank, while the west side will be reshaped with seawalls and rock slabs to create pools that support aquatic life.
This section will eventually join the city’s lower greenway network…
