LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Friday marked 22 years since the death of Brenda Cowan, a pioneer for Lexington first responders and the city’s history.
On Feb. 13, 2004, Lieutenant Cowan was killed while responding to a domestic violence incident.
In 1992, Cowan became the first Black female firefighter to join the Lexington Fire Department (LFD), according to the Lexington Professional Black Firefighters Association (LPBF).
