Eight years later: a Parkland shooting survivor’s experience

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Eight years ago, my life changed forever. A gunman killed 17 students and staff and injured 17 others at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine’s Day in 2018.

I was 14 years old, a freshman at Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, Florida. I was in my last class of the day, my English class, in the 1200 building, when everything took a turn for the worse.

I suddenly heard one of the loudest sounds I’ve ever heard; it sounded like a bomb. I later learned that the shooter threw gas grenades in the hallway of the first floor…
