San Diego drivers got a rare bit of good news at the pump today when word spread that at least one Kearny Mesa gas station had dropped regular unleaded below $4 a gallon. The sub-$4 price quickly drew in commuters eager for a cheaper fill-up, even though for most residents the relief is more novelty than new normal, with countywide averages still far higher.
Local TV crews identified the bargain stop as Gas King in Kearny Mesa. Speaking with CBS 8, a station representative said the lowered price was meant to “give back to the community,” and that traffic noticeably picked up around midday once the new numbers hit the sign. The report did not specify how long the below-$4 price would stay on the board.
