SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Bay area is experiencing severe drought conditions, heightening the possibility for wildfires to spread.
Friday, Sarasota County fire officials spoke about the lack of rainfall and how the smallest ember could create hazardous conditions if residents do not prepare. Over 160 acres burned in Sarasota during February.

“One spark from equipment, vehicles, a lightning strike, or even an accidental ember can quickly turn a slow-moving fire into a fast-moving wildfire,” said Venice Fire Rescue Chief Frank Giddens.
