WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Two empty train cars derailed just before 11 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, in downtown Wilmington while heading toward the State Port, causing street closures and traffic delays.
Wilmington Police Department (WPD) units are on the scene of the derailment near the South Front and Kidder Street rail crossing. The empty cars came off the tracks as they were traveling toward the port.
The area near the rail crossing on Front Street is currently blocked off.
No injuries have been reported, and no hazardous materials were on board the cars, police said…
