City of Madison Celebrates Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has officially declared February 16–20, 2026, as Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week. The City of Madison is proud to recognize the 65 crossing guards who faithfully serve at intersections throughout the city, helping students and families travel to and from school safely each day.

Recognition Week comes during the height of Wisconsin winter, a time that highlights the dedication of crossing guards who regularly work in snow, freezing rain, wind, and extreme cold. Regardless of weather conditions, these public safety professionals remain a dependable presence in school neighborhoods and play a vital role in protecting pedestrians.

“Our crossing guards are out there every school day focused on one thing: making sure kids get to school safely,” said Niko Magallón, City of Madison Crossing Guard Supervisor. “They take a lot of pride in serving their communities, and Recognition Week gives us the chance to thank them and shine a light on the important work they do.”…
