LaMarr Franklin A Legacy of Leadership and Service

LaMarr Franklin….The Man! The Myth! The Legend! On February 11, 2026, the city, the state and the nation lost a Soldier, one of its greatest leaders and a brilliant mind. However, Earth’s loss is heaven’s gain.

LaMarr lived a fruitful and meaningful life who lived as he knew the true meaning of life is not how much you have but how much you give. For 80 years, LaMarr Franklin poured into this community and leaves a positive historical legacy worthy emulation. Just 6 months ago, LaMarr’s life of service to family, country and the community was celebrated. On September 27th, LaMarr celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends from across the United States. One week after his birthday, LaMarr’s invaluable impact on the Milwaukee community was honored as the Martin Luther King Economic Development Corporation built, named and opened the LaMarr Franklin Lofts in his honor. LaMarr Franklinwas present and was honored at the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the LaMarr Franklin Lofts in Milwaukee.These lofts offer 55 (1, 2, and 3 bedroom) units with 46 designated as affordable and subsidized housing to assist people in need. LaMarr was very humbled but proud of such a significant recognition. He also felt that this was a needed addition to the Harambee Neighborhood! But who is LaMarr Franklin?

LaMarr Franklin is a legend whose life is worthy of emulation and one whose legacy will be forever written in the scrolls of history for future generations to read about. LaMarr Franklin lived a purposeful life and he was determined to help people reach their full potential, especially our youth. LaMarr was born and raised in Milwaukee and graduated fromMessmer High School in 1963. At 21, he was drafted into the United States Army and served from March 1967 until March 1969…earning the title of Sergeant. During LaMarr’s service, he was exposed to new ex-periences, including foodrationing and no running water. The worst part was being in combat in the Vietnam war and not knowing if he would make it back home. Through it all, the war taught him to appreciate life and the many comforts that home afforded him. Once LaMarr returned home, he received a Bachelor of Science in Sociology at Roosevelt University in Chicago before starting a successful career in corporate sales. He retired as Vice President of Sales at Computec Integrated Solutions, Inc., after 15 years of service…
