Walmart resurrects plans for a Windsor Supercenter

After more than two decades of a “will they, won’t they” relationship with Windsor, Walmart has resurrected its plans for a Supercenter in the town, according to a site plan application recently filed with its planning department.

In the application, the big-box chain proposes the development of a 191,300-square-foot Walmart Supercenter and affiliated fueling station on 20 acres it owns at the northeast corner of Main and 17th streets, per the town’s website. The proposal includes the creation of two additional retail pad sites for future development.

Walmart made its interest in Windsor public back in 2004 — stirring up both supporters and detractors before eventually purchasing its main parcel near the corner of Main and 17th streets for almost $2.7 million in 2007, according to Weld County property records.
