Salem’s only youth mental health drop-in to close due to cuts

Salem’s only youth mental health drop-in center closed its doors Feb. 13 due to funding cuts.

Youth Era laid off four staff and closed after Pacific Source Community Solutions drastically reduced funding to community-based organizations, the nonprofit’s leaders said.

“We’re being asked to do less for kids at the exact moment they need us most,” Youth Era founder and CEO Martin Rafferty said in a statement. “Oregon didn’t become the worst state in the nation for mental health by accident. It happened because we keep making choices like this one.”…
