New apartments, hardware store, more approved in Schenectady County

SCOTIA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority approved four new projects throughout Schenectady County on Wednesday night. Metroplex is the lead economic development agency in county.

In Scotia, Metroplex is set to help with plans to renovate the former Scotia Mansion Nursing Home and turn it into 16 apartments. The nursing home, located at 39 Wallace Street, closed in August 2025.

The project includes new siding, roofing, windows, a full replacement of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, and renovating the interior into apartment units. The project is expected to take 12 to 18 months. The renovations are set to cost around $1.5 million total, with Metroplex providing a $60,000 facade matching grant.

In Rotterdam, Metroplex is helping turn the vacant Office Max space into an ACE Hardware store and distribution facility. Hatchet Hardware is family-owned, and an authorized ACE Hardware dealer. They have nine locations around the Capital Region…
