Charleston, S.C. – Drivers along I-26 and US-17 should prepare now for wind gusts up to 60 mph as a squall line pushes into the Lowcountry between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday, raising the risk of downed trees, blocked lanes and scattered power outages before the evening commute ends.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Level 2 out of 5 slight risk for severe thunderstorms covers much of southeast Georgia and the South Carolina Lowcountry this afternoon and evening. The primary hazard is damaging straight-line wind gusts up to 60 mph, with an isolated brief tornado possible within stronger cells. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning will also accompany the line…
