Vehicle-pole collision cuts power for 800 in southwest Decatur; 500 still await restoration as of 10 p.m.

DECATUR, Ala. — Approximately 800 customers lost power in southwest Decatur Saturday night after a vehicle struck a utility pole on Wimberly Drive SW, according to Decatur Utilities.

The incident occurred in the 2800 block of Wimberly Drive SW, near Fairgrounds Road, when a vehicle collided with a power pole before driving off. The impact broke the pole and brought down power lines into the roadway.
