Nearly 3 years after Ava Wood’s death, her mother remembers her through Valentine’s Day pop-up: ‘The way she lived, I want to live that way’

CAMILLUS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Family and friends gathered in Camillus this weekend to celebrate the life of 14-year-old Ava Wood through a two-day Valentine’s Day pop-up event nearly three years after her death.

The collaboration, Project LeanNation Syracuse x Stupendous Love, honors Ava’s legacy while raising money for the Ava Wood Stupendous Love Scholarship, which is now available to students nationwide.

Ava, a Baldwinsville teenager, was killed in 2023 in a murder-suicide involving her father. Her death shocked Central New York and sparked conversations about domestic violence awareness and mental health resources. Those closest to her say this weekend is not centered on the tragedy, but on the way she lived.
