NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. — A tractor-trailer went overboard early Sunday on the southbound span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, prompting lane closures, emergency repairs and a U.S. Coast Guard response.
According to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel District, the single-vehicle crash happened around 6:30 a.m. near the North Channel Bridge, just south of Fisherman’s Island. Officials said the southbound tractor-trailer went over the west side of the span.
The crash caused damage to the facility’s guardrail and curb. CBBT maintenance crews are responding to make emergency repairs. The U.S. Coast Guard and the Virginia Beach Marine Police are assisting in the search for the driver…
