ULM’s Seventh-Inning Rally Sweeps FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The ULM softball team (5-4) fended off FGCU (4-5) in a late rally to continue the sweep of the FGCU Eagle Invitational on Saturday evening (Feb. 14), 3-1. Six Warhawks claimed hits on the day to drive the offense ahead.

A single from freshman Kailey Monsef allowed for the Warhawks to start hot early, Meagan Brown’s double scoring Monsef for the 1-0 score in the top of the first. ULM’s defense then held the Eagles without a score in the first, continuing to put on the pressure.

While both teams were able to get runners on base, even in scoring position, it was a defensive fight as neither team could pick up a score in the second, third or fourth innings. Skylar Waggoner struck out two batters in the process to prevent the tying run. But two doubles from the home team in the fifth had FGCU tying things up, 1-1. The Warhawks fought to respond, but after loading the bases, the Eagles retired batter after batter to prevent the lead…
