First Alert Forecast: Wet Sunday Ahead, Near-Record Warmth Next Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Tonight’s weather will be relatively mild as North Georgia enjoys a brief period of calm conditions before a significant weather system brings rain to the region. However, the story doesn’t end with wet weather—a notable warming trend is on tap for the workweek that will bring temperatures into the upper 70s.

Tonight: Mostly Calm Night Before the Rain

Cloud cover will continue to increase tonight ahead of our next system. While most of the rain holds off until sunrise or later on Sunday, there could still be a few showers possible tonight. Low temperatures will still be cool in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

Sunday: Widespread Rain Expected

Rain will return to North Georgia early Sunday morning and persist through much of the day and evening. We should see totals generally between 0.75 to 1.25 inches across much of the region.

Along with the rain, a few thunderstorms are possible, but a better chance for stronger storms sets up into Central and Southern Georgia.

Highs on Sunday will be dampened by the rain with most spots in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Sunday Night Into Monday: Rain Tapers Off

The heaviest rain is expected to move out of North Georgia by Sunday evening with a quiet start to the Monday morning commute.
