LEXINGTON, Ky. — Love was in the air at Mill Ridge Farm, where it didn’t come in a box of chocolates but in a bucket filled with carrots.
What You Need To Know
- Mill Ridge Farm and Horse Country Inc. are offering $2 “carrot grams” and roses through Feb. 16
- Carrots can be sent to farm favorites and roses to Kentucky Derby winners such as Mage and Mystik Dan
- Proceeds support Stable Recovery at Taylor Made Family Farm, a program that uses horses to help people overcome addiction
- The effort connects visitors to horses and Kentucky’s land while highlighting the people who care for the animals each day
The farm is one of more than 20 farms or facilities that works with central Kentucky equine membership organization and farm tour specialist Horse Country Inc. For Valentine’s Day weekend, its farms joined them for “carrot grams.” Racehorse lovers could also send a rose to a Kentucky Derby winner like 2023’s Mage or 2024’s Mystik Dan.
“We all remember in high school, maybe sending a candy gram or a rose to your crush,” said Hallie Hardy, Visit Horse Country executive director. “We copied that concept to, you can send a carrot, which is an iconic treat, especially here at Mill Ridge Farm. When you come on a tour, you get to feed the horses carrots.”…
