It’s been said that appreciation of the arts is most effective when it’s nurtured early. When Maryville College invites five high school bands to perform in the Clayton Center for the Arts on Tuesday, Feb. 17, it offers student musicians an opportunity to share their talents and challenge themselves at the same time.
The participating school bands represent Eagleton College and Career Academy, Heritage High School, Alcoa High School, William Blount High School and Maryville High School. Students will perform their own recitals and watch performances by the other school bands. Given the size of the Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre, there is ample room to accommodate band members as well as members of the public who wish to attend the free presentation.
Dubbed the Blount County Band Festival, the event focuses entirely on bands from area schools rather than East Tennessee as a whole. In addition, a panel of adjudicators will provide each band with feedback on its performance…
